What is SlimmingPals?
It is a slimming programme with a difference. Uniquely, it is based on a nutritionally and scientifically sound dietary approach, meeting in a small group of up to 8 people, with the help and support of an experienced nutritional therapist.
I have devised an easy-to-do programme, based on many years’ experience of individual weight-loss programmes. The recipes and menu suggestions are truly delicious and there is plenty of support between meetings.
The aim is to change your approach to eating and to provide an enjoyable, supportive way to achieve healthy and permanent weight loss.
Losing weight
Realistic and healthy weight-loss is essential – many diets claim or indeed achieve rapid weight loss. Sadly, this often results in a yo-yo effect with the weight coming back on afterwards, or the diet provides poor nutrition and risks malnourishment and consequential health problems. It is far more important to achieve healthy, sustained weight-loss that stays off, rather than rapid ‘miracle’ weight-loss that doesn’t!
When you achieve your weight-loss goal, you switch to a maintenance programme - a plan for the rest of your life to help ensure you never get back to your starting weight! Of course you will be able to have indulgences again, but having learnt the principles of the SlimmingPals programme you should easily be able to maintain your weight.
Principles behind the SlimmingPals Programme
Food should be a pleasure. The recipes and menu plans are designed to ensure you have a repertoire of delicious, healthy meals for every occasion; from easy-to-prepare week-day food for you (and others) to enjoy, to what to eat in restaurants as well as more lavish ideas for entertaining at home.
To support the Slimming Pals regime, there will be a small supplement programme to help optimise health, energy and well-being whilst losing weight.
There are no packaged, processed, gimmicky or ‘miracle’ slimming products or meal replacements. The key is a nutritious diet based on fresh, natural foods with delicious recipes and menu planning ideas so that you can enjoy eating proper food that is healthy. As you might guess I am not an advocate of processed food or chemical cocktails of ‘slimming’ pills or bars and shakes full of artificial additives and flavours!
How the Programme Works
- You start with an initial 1:1 consultation with me in my office to assess your individual needs, any health issues and your weight goals.
- At this meeting the principles are explained, realistic weight goals agreed, questions answered and the support and advice structure established.
- You will then join a small group of up to eight people and attend fortnightly meetings at my home in Pembury near Tunbridge Wells.
- The first month is ‘Boot Camp’ month to help kick-start the weight-loss process and will include a list of foods to eat, avoid and limit.
- Initially the regime will be quite strict, but new foods are introduced as the plan progresses.
- Throughout, you will receive personal advice and support between meetings too - either by e-mail or on the telephone as necessary.
What happens when I reach my Goal?
- You can attend meetings for as long as you need to help you achieve the healthy weight you wish to be.
- Once you have reached your desired weight, you will be given a maintenance programme to help you retain your slimmer figure and healthier weight
What does it Cost?
- £20 for the personal one-to-one nutritional consultation
- £60 per month for fortnightly group meetings (or £30 if you join the group during the second half of the month). This is payable at your initial one-to-one consultation meeting.
- From then it is £60 per month for the fortnightly meetings plus the support and advice you need between these meetings.
Supplement Support
- Depending on what is required, the supplement programme will typically cost between £20-£30 per month
Do I need to Exercise?
Exercise is important to stimulate your metabolism and build lean muscles! But you do not have to join a gym or go to any classes to support your weight loss programme - unless you want to. It is remarkable what regular sessions of brisk walking or swimming each week can achieve to raise your metabolism and help keep you fit and trim.
If it helps, we can personally recommend excellent coaches, such as tried and trusted personal trainers, walking groups, Pilates teachers, and a range of excellent in-home walking/ exercise DVD’s.

January 2008 and I was fast approaching not only my 55th birthday but also the birth of my long awaited first grandchild and here I was overweight and very unfit. I wanted to be a "fit granny" not this fat, unhealthy, lethargic woman.

I have now reached my target weight, am still enjoying cooking and eating healthily. I feel so fit and well and really enjoying taking my granddaughter for long walks in her buggy. I have even been asked was she my baby!
Oh, and the icing on the cake was when I went up to Bluewater in July and treated myself to a new wardrobe of clothes- all size 12!
